The world tells us in many ways that we’re not enough just as we are so it’s no wonder we can find it hard to believe that we actually are. In this episode I share a personal tool I use daily to help teach myself to accept that I am, in fact, enough which you can use too.

My book, The 1% Wellness Experiment: Micro-gains to change your life in ten minutes a day is a really practical book with actions you can take straight away to make a real difference to the quality of your life. Each action takes only 10 minutes – that’s 1% of your waking day – so it’s super quick and effective and doable. And it’s an experiment because I’ve taken off the pressure of you having to do things a certain way to guarantee a result, which so often leads to disappointment and frustration because everyone’s life is different and there needs to be flexibility so you can make these actions work for you in your unique life. In the book we explore establishing boundaries and saying no, overcoming comparison and handling anxiety, dealing with perfectionism and creating habits and so much more.
I’m not saying that doing one thing once for ten minutes will magically fix your life, that’s absurd and anyone who tells you that is the case should be kept at arm’s length! What I am saying in this book is that there are actions you can take in a small amount of time, just 1% of your day, that over time really do add up to make a big difference in your life.
So by the end of the experiment you’ll have created your own bespoke tried-and-tested toolkit packed with techniques to lower your stress, strengthen your self-confidence, nurture your connections, instil calm and increase joy.
The 1% Wellness Experiment is available to pre-order now and I have two special bonuses for everyone who pre-orders the book! You can find out more about the pre-order book bonuses as well as find links to online shops in the UK and around the world where you can pre-order The 1% Wellness Experiment by going to thewellnessexperiment.co.uk. And of course you can pre-order the book at your local high street book store too.
I can’t wait to bring you my book and to share the pre-order bonuses with you too.
Okay, here’s the episode.

Welcome to episode 130. I meditate most days, for about ten to 20 minutes. And at the end of every meditation I repeat a set of words out loud to myself. A sort of affirmation to round off the meditation.
The first line I say is: “I am enough, whole and complete, just as I am in this moment and there is nothing that I, or anyone else, can say or do that will change that.”
It’s one, quite long sentence but there’s a lot packed in there!
I came up with this line because it’s what I really want myself to understand and believe, to take on board each and every day. And I’m sharing it with you in case you could do with taking this on too. So let’s break it down.
The first part is “I am enough, whole and complete”. The world tells us, in many ways, from many different directions, that we aren’t enough. That we need to buy this thing, be like this person, do this thing, go to this place, look like this, act like this… and only then will we be enough. Only then will we feel like we’re a whole and complete person.
We’ve all grown up with this message to varying degrees and it’s a really tough one to combat!
If you’ve been told that you’re not tough enough, you don’t talk enough or too much, you’re not as much fun…
If you’ve been given the message that you need to earn above a certain figure, have a grand job title, drive a flash car, holiday in faraway places, have a partner, have children…
If you’ve been shown by the systems and structures of society that who you are does not fit… you’re going to feel lacking.
The message is you’re not enough, whole or complete without ticking boxes laid out for you by other people, by society. When the truth is that you’re enough right now, that’s the next part I say – “Just as I am in this moment”. You were born a whole and complete person and you have been every day since. Yes, you can learn and achieve and develop, that’s all great and I’m all for it.
But, this is an important but, if you don’t get that qualification you’ll still be enough. If you don’t find a life partner you’re still a whole person. If you aren’t earning the salary you’d like you’re still complete. If you don’t look, sound or act like others want you to you’re still enough, whole and complete.
The next line is “And there is nothing that I, or anyone else, can say or do that will change that”. I say this because it’s a fact that you are enough and it is not up for debate.
You can tell yourself that you need to be this or do that and it doesn’t change the fact that you are already enough, whole and complete. Someone else can say that you should do this or be more that and it still doesn’t change the fact that you are already enough, whole and complete. You can treat yourself badly and it still doesn’t change the fact that you are already enough, whole and complete. Someone else can be unkind to you and it still doesn’t change the fact that you are already enough, whole and complete.
Believing wholeheartedly that we are enough, whole and complete, just as we are in this moment, and there is nothing that we, or anyone else, can say or do that will change that is incredibly important.
Because what does coming at life from this place allow you to do? How does it open you up to the world? What would you do if you knew that the result doesn’t affect who you are as a person?
Too often you keep quiet because to speak up and potentially be disagreed with could mean something bad about you. But if you’re already enough, whole and complete, how can it? Too often you don’t take the step into the unknown because if you don’t get your desired outcome it means you’re a failure. But if you’re already enough, whole and complete, how can it? Too often this leads you to stay stuck in overwhelm, to hold yourself back, to mould yourself into what you think you should be, you disregard your own needs out of this feeling of not enoughness.
When all along you have been – and you will continue to be – enough, whole and complete.
So, when you say out loud to yourself: “I am enough, whole and complete, just as I am in this moment and there is nothing that I, or anyone else, can say or do that will change that”, tell me, how does it feel?
