Hi, hello, it’s been a while. For anyone new to this podcast welcome, thank you for being here. And for regular listeners, thank you for coming back and listening once more. This is episode 63 but it’s more of a catch-up and a look ahead than a proper episode.
By way of a quick intro I’m Gabrielle Treanor and I help introvert, empathic women struggling with overwhelm to feel calmer, more in control and, ultimately, happier. I’m a mindset and positive psychology coach working with clients one to one, I run The Calm Mind Club membership and I create online courses and workshops. You can find out more about all of this on my website gabrielletreanor.com, you’ll find more on this podcast there too.
I’m also a writer and you may have seen me pop up in magazines like The Simple Things, Breathe, In the Moment and Happy News. I live in the Brecon Beacons in south Wales with my husband and little dog, previously I ran my own stationery business and before that I had a career in publishing!
Now, back to the present day and a lot has happened since I was last here, talking to you through this podcast. The Covid-19 global pandemic has had an extraordinary and huge impact on everyone around the world. For some it’s been devastating, for others less so but we’ve all have had to change the way we go about our everyday lives.
Things that many of us took for granted like meeting up with friends and family, travelling into work, going shopping, have radically changed and the brain power and energy required to do what used to be almost automatic actions has been huge. That’s contributed to the feelings of overwhelm that so many of us have been experiencing. When you’re having to consciously think about something as straight forward as how you’re walking down the street, what you’re touching, how close you are to other people, along with so many other changes to how you go about life, you’re using much more processing power than you used to because the automatic actions can no longer be done on auto-pilot. Which means you’ve much less energy to do all the other stuff in life!
I hadn’t planned on taking such a long break from the podcast but with everything that’s been going on the past six months I needed to be more focused in my work rather than trying to do all the things. But recently I’ve been feeling called back here, I’ve wanted to connect with you again through this podcast so here I am!
My plan is to post an episode each week from now until about Christmas time. In the episodes I’ll share the thoughts I’ve been having on dealing with overwhelm, on taking care of our own needs, on how we can feel calmer and more in control, and on finding and feeling joy in our everyday lives, amidst everything that we’re dealing with during the pandemic. Because it’s not going away any time soon. While uncertainty has been something that I know many of you have struggled with during the past six months one thing I think we can be pretty certain of is that the way we’re living now, with its restrictions and potential for more, is how things are going to be for the foreseeable.
But what I share won’t be pandemic-specific, the ideas, thoughts and actions, like all my work, are relevant and applicable to how we go about each day, whatever is going on in the world.
So the episodes will be bitesize, maybe 5 to 10 minutes long, so that they feel doable for me to create (because a few minutes of podcast takes a few hours to produce) and for you to listen to.
I hope you enjoy what I share and find it helpful, perhaps thought-provoking and maybe the nudge you’ve been looking for to take a step forward or make a change.
I always love to hear what you think, what you’re taking from the podcast and how you listen to it. I’m enormously thankful to everyone who has rated or left a review on iTunes because it helps more people to find Pressing Pause and I’d love for anyone who would find it useful to be able to find it.
