Live Your Best Life: Lucy Lucraft

Lucy Lucraft Live Your Best Life interview

Lucy Lucraft and I became friends on Instagram a while ago and I'm delighted that Lucy has agreed to be part of my Live Your Best Life interview series. In these posts we focus on what living the life you want, contributing to the world in a way that works for you and being the best version of yourself each day, means for each of us. There's no one size fits all and each of the inspiring women I talk to here are simply doing what they can to live the best life they can.

So, over to Lucy to share what living your best life means for her…

It's lovely to have you here, Lucy! Please tell us a bit about yourself and how you got to where you are today.
I'm a freelance journalist, blogger and podcaster based in Brighton but my background is retail! I did a Psychology and Counselling degree before falling into retail merchandising aged 22, which is where I met my husband. We eventually quit our jobs to travel which is when I started a travel blog, and started freelance writing too. Before long I'd shifted in-house at Lonely Planet and The Express newspaper. Before having a baby I went back to freelance and now help others wanting to get into freelance writing too!

What inspirational quotes or words hold meaning for you?
'This too shall pass!' I lean on this one a LOT! 'Have courage and be kind', and 'Do no harm, take no shit' also get me through the day.

They're brilliant! Tell us, how do you recognise when life’s getting on top of you?
I'm a real workaholic so don't always prioritise self-care but I've learned I simply need to make sure I have a day a week where I switch off, ignore emails and watch films or whatever. I also love getting a donut and coffee and chilling on the beach, even when it's cold!

What else do you do to get back to how you want to feel?
YOGA! I practice daily, sometimes only for ten minutes, but this always centres me. Probably because I'm taking time out to breathe!

Can you tell us what plans, hopes and dreams you have for the future?
I want to help fellow ethically conscious creatives create sustainable careers they love, particularly women who have creative businesses they want to support their lives. I have a background in retail, so I can number crunch like a boss but I also know how the digital marketing world works too and I want to work with people who share my values.

And finally, Lucy, what does living your best life mean to you?
Being kind, curious and and laughing often .
